Toll API Plans and Pricing

Tollsmart offers the most affordable and flexible API pricing options on the market to suit every size company's needs, including a completely free plan that provides up to 100 API calls per month and Tiered and Pay-as-you-Go plans which provide 30-day free trial periods and up to 10,000 API calls.

Tollsmart is pleased to provide developers with two options for API services, one based on Open Street Maps (OSM) and one based on Google Maps. The OSM plan is our fastest service and provides basic routing and lower pricing due to reduced costs. The Google Maps plan features premium routing which returns multiple routes. Both plans feature the most comprehensive and up-to-date toll data for North America on the market and share the following features:

  • Detailed information and prices for all toll roads, bridges, tunnels and express lanes* in the US, Canada and Mexico, including cash and transponder prices for any vehicle size up to 9-axle tractor trailer trucks.
  • Routing API and map-matching with route geometry (polylines), time and distance.
  • Applies complex business rules of tolling facilities to quote the prices a driver would pay at any toll location for the computed route.
  • Predictive timing that estimates toll prices based on the expected times of passing through tolls.

*Returns predicted minimal and maximum prices for all express lanes based on their business rules and query parameters. Current prices are also available for several express lanes.

A single call to the Tollsmart API may result in multiple calls to the Google Maps API as follows:

  • Origin/destination to be geocoded (supplied as addresses rather than coordinates) results in 2 Google Maps API calls.
  • Origin/destination routing call results in 1 Google Maps API call.
  • Via-points (waypoints) results in 1 Google Maps API call for every waypoint.
  • Waypoints to be geocoded results in 1 Google Maps API call for every waypoint.
  • Map-matching call count depends on the number of points needed for reconstruction. Every 20 points results in 1 Google Maps API call.

Example: a single call to the Tollsmart API service to compute tolls between “Boston” and “New York” would incur 3 Google Maps API calls (2 entries to geocode + 1 directions call) at a cost of 4.5 cents (3 x $0.015).
